New camera

Andy and I decided to get a nice SLR camera for good baby shots. After doing a lot of research, Andy picked out a camera and has been learning a lot about photography. Here are some of the pics he took the first week we were home.

First week home

Wow, what an amazing experience. Coming home with Robert was so exciting and so incredibly overwhelming all at the same time. Andy was able to take 2 weeks off from work, and was such an incredible help. He is absolutely amazing with Robert, and it melts my heart to see him as the wonderful father that I knew he would be. He has been helping out so much with the baby, and has had to do everything around the house since I'm still recovering from my section. The lack of sleep has definitely been the hardest thing by far for both of us, but the second he stares up at you with those adoring eyes it makes it all worth it!

I had to include pictures of his first bath at home! Many thanks to Amanda, who taught me what to do since I had absolutely no clue! Before Robert arrived, I went over to the Eatons to watch her bathe Baby Hayes. Definitely made me more comfortable when I had to bathe our tiny little munchkin for the first time! Of course, Robert screamed the whole time, but it was a fun experience for Andy and me.
My favorite time of the night! Sweet sleepy baby that smells so yummy!

Two days after we'd been at home, we had our first checkup at the hospital. I really wish we had one of those heat-lamp beds at home, because he was sound asleep the whole entire time - even when the nurse was examining him! She said Robert was the star patient that day - checkup was perfect. After losing down to 5lb 12oz in the hospital, he was already gaining weight....5lb 14 oz today. I was worried about jaundice since we're breastfeeding, but he was doing great! Still a skinny little string bean, but as hungry as he has been I know it will only be a matter of time before he gets some meat on his bones. He is wanting to eat around every 1 1/2 to 2 hours, which is exhausting for me, but I know he just wants to grow into a big boy!

Sweet little snuggler!

Baby Day!

Time for Baby Robert to finally get here! We got to Women's Hospital on Monday, August 15th to start the induction process.

The next morning, we hadn't made much progress so Dr Carroll made the decision to go ahead with a cesarean section. At 1:23 p.m. on August 16th, Robert Walton made his entrance to this world! 6 pounds, 7 ounces, 20 inches long.
Welcome, Baby Robert!

Baby countdown

My wonderful friends threw us a baby shower at Helen's house 6 weeks before my due date. We had so much fun getting to celebrate the arrival of Robert!

Two weeks later, I was diagnosed with preeclampsia and put on bedrest for the remainder of my pregnancy. It was so hard not being able to do anything, but of course I wanted to do anything I could to prevent him from being born too early. We had to go in for doctors appointments at least twice a week, and had to be prepared to get sent to the hospital for delivery at any time. After a roller-coaster few weeks, Dr Carroll decided it was finally time for Robert to get here!

had to have all of our things packed for a few weeks!

Make way for baby!

Andy and I are enjoying the first few weeks of parenthood! I figured it would be a good time to start a new blog, so we can update everyone on our adventures!

We found out that we were expecting in December, so were able to let our parents know as a wonderful Christmas present. When we were able to find out the sex of Baby Ostrenga, we had the sonographer write down the gender and put in an envelope. We took it to the bakery and got cupcakes make with either pink or blue icing in the middle. The Germanys and Ostrengas and some wonderful friends all gathered at our house to find out with us if we were having a little girl or boy!

 It's a BOY!!!

We were so excited about our little boy, and decided on the name Robert Walton. "Robert" is Andy's middle name and a family name on his side, and "Walton" is my middle name and a family name on our side.

Our friends at work threw us 2 baby showers to help us get ready for the arrival of little Robert. The pharmacy department at UMC had a wonderful diaper shower for us. Decorations were adorable, and we got a whole closet full of diapers and wipes!

The nurses and doctors that Andy work with had a bowtie-themed shower for us. They nicknamed Andy "Andy Bob", so of course Robert has become known as "Baby Bob" around the children's hospital.
